Governor Calls For New Police Agency That Can Arrest Voters

1.5kviews

Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, would like to create a new police force, “Office of Election Crime and Security.” They would be put into place in order to find and prosecute violations of election regulations in that state. Violators would then be arrested.

This would involve hiring 52 investigators on a $6 million budget.

“This will facilitate the faithful enforcement of election laws. Additionally, it will provide Floridians with the confidence that their vote will count,” said DeSantis.

However, critics believe that the governor is actually attempting to scare voters away. They have stated that voter fraud is extremely minimal in the Florida. In 2020, only three violators were located.

“It seems as though this is going to focus on organizations trying to get people registered to vote, as well as people doing petition drives,” stated the Broward County supervisor of Elections.

The new agency would be able to fight voter fraud under DeSantis’s plan. But experts feel that the low incident rate of the issue doesn’t match the cost. Ultimately, they feel that it will affect the voters in the end.
