Diamond Alvarez, 16, was fatally shot in Houston.
Now, police have identified and arrested 17-year-old Frank Deleon Jr.
Authorities say that Deleon was dating Alvarez and another person. When Alvarez found out that he was cheating, he shot her 22 times on January 11, around 9:30 p.m.
Prior to the incident, Alvarez’s relatives stated that she had been having a disagreement with her “ex-boyfriend.,” who had been violent with her previously. He texted her to come and meet him at a park while she was walking her dog. The family overheard gunfire, and the dog came back home. However, Alvarez didn’t.
“My son found her. I tried CPR, and I couldn’t bring her back. I tried so hard to keep her alive. I couldn’t,” Anna Machado, Diamond’s mother said.
Detectives say that when they went to take Deleon into custody, they found luggage that was packed, indicating he was planning on leaving for a while. He told police that Alvarez had been stalking his new partner, and the new girlfriend broke up with him because of that.
Deleon posted a $250,000 bond on Wednesday morning.
