LAPD Officers Fired After Ignoring Call To Catch Pokemon Instead Case Upheld In Court

Two Los Angeles police officers were fired in 2017 after ignoring an emergency call to catch Pokemon instead.

Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell were terminated from their positions when they failed to respond to a robbery call at a local mall to play Pokemon Go. Evidence showed that the two men went to catch a “Snorlax” in a neighboring community from their location.

The two former officers discussed how to get to the location without getting caught since it wasn’t their assigned area. One of the officers also can be heard saying, “Screw it” when the robbery call was dispatched to them.

Lozano and Mitchel were caught due to a video recording device in their patrol car being used as evidence against them in their legal termination under the courts. The officers argued that the recording should not have been used in their disciplinary proceeding. They also claim they were denied the protections of the Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights Act.

The courts denied their petition to uphold the decision of them being fired. The judgement was ruled against the former officers and both will remain terminated.
