Chad Read, 54, was fatally shot outside his ex-wife’s house in Lubbock after an altercation with the former wife’s boyfriend.
Chad went to his ex-wife Christina’s house to pick up their children per court order. Christina, her boyfriend Kyle Carruth, and Chad all had an arguement about not having the kids ready for him to pick up.
Kyle went inside their home and came back with a riffle. Kyle threatened Chad while Chad challenges him to use the weapon. Kyle fires a shot on the ground at Chad’s feet. Chad and Kyle wrestle with the gun when Kyle fires two more rounds at Chad. Chad drops to the ground and is later pronounced dead on the scene.
Jennifer Read, Chad’s wife, was waiting in the car and recorded the incident on her phone. She released the video when she filed a motion to take custody of her husband’s two children following his death.
Jennifer claims in her affidavit that Chad’s children blame their mother for his death. She also states that the children will openly tell the judge they want to live with her. According to her lawyer the case was dismissed and no action was taken.
