Couple Tricked Out Of $10,000 In Fake Adoption

2.7kviews

Breanne Paquin and her husband couldn’t conceive a child, so they chose a private adoption.

They looked on social media and found a woman in Houston that was five months pregnant.

The Paquins, from Akron, Ohio, hired a lawyer out of Houston to assist with the adoption. They validated the woman’s identity by having her send a picture, and they did a background check.

Throughout her pregnancy, the woman sent the Paquins pictures and ultrasound recordings and her medical bills that amounted to over $9,000. The couple reimbursed the woman for the bills.

On December 25, the woman told the couple that she would be induced that week. The Paquins scheduled a flight, rented a car and an Airbnb, and traveled to Houston. On the day that she was supposed to have the baby, she told the couple that her mother was having open-heart surgery. A few days went by, and no word was said about when the baby was to be delivered.

The Paquin’s attorney then told them that he believed that they were scammed. When family members, at the address provided, were asked about the woman’s whereabouts, they stated that they didn’t think the woman was pregnant, and their mom was not in the hospital.

The couple gathered their belongings and went back to Ohio, broken-hearted.

Officials are now working to pursue possible wire fraud charges.
