James Chadwell II, of Lafayette, Indiana, was given 90 years in prison on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to attempted murder and molesting a 9-year-old girl.

On April 19, officials located the child, who had disappeared, in Chadwell’s basement. Authorities noted that several injuries were observed on her, including what seemed to be a dog bite on her leg.

Chadwell stated that he was “very drunk” when he used a dog to get the girl close to his home. He didn’t deny that he attacked her, but says he simply has no memory of it.

After strangling the young girl, she passed out. When she regained consciousness, Chadwell sexually assaulted her over and over. He demanded that the child perform oral sex on him, as well. Chadwell threatened to kill her if she yelled or told anyone about the occurrence.

Chadwell has a criminal record that last over 20 years. He is now being investigated in two unsolved killings, from 2017, of two Indianapolis girls, Abigail Williams, 13 and Liberty German, 14.
