It is possible that up to 100 people were killed in western Kentucky after an intensive tornado tore through the area overnight.

Mayfield, Kentucky, sustained a rough hit that included a candle manufacturing company that had about 110 people inside when the storm occurred. The building almost collapsed. There are expected to many people missing from that location. Two additional tornadoes were reported in the area, as well.

Rescue efforts are now being conducted by local response teams and the National Guard.

Although the tornado affected counties in Kentucky, some people that died were in Arkansas.  This was mainly because once the twist hit the ground, it remained there for 227 miles. The path that it traveled also took the storm through Missouri and Tennessee.

The governor of Kentucky has declared a state of emergency to assist people that were affected.

Power outages are increasing as daybreak has begun. Loss of life and property damage is expected to climb as more updates are come in.
