On Thursday, Peta, the animals’ rights organization, announced that it would like Major League Baseball to make a change.
Peta wants the MLB to alter the name, “bullpen.” This is known as the location in a stadium where baseball players prepare for the game.
“Bullpen” is the section in a “bull’s pen” where bulls are kept until they are killed.
Peta believes using the words “arm barn” would be more preferable.
“It’s a word with speciesist roots, and we can do better than that. Switching to ‘arm barn’ would be a home run for baseball players, fans, and animals. “Let’s liberate the language we use in baseball,” Peta said in a statement.
Although “arm barn” is an interesting term, the MLB probably won’t modify the name as it has been around for over 100 years.
