Open Carry Handgun Law Goes Into Effect September 1, In Texas

2.7kviews

Starting September 1, Texans over 21 are allowed to openly carry their gun without a permit.
Those that have a clean background with no felonies or domestic violence cases will be able to carry.
The law prohibits open carry if you are or have been convicted of assault causing bodily injury, deadly conduct, terroristic threats or disorderly conduct with a firearm.
Governor Abbott signed the bill in June allowing Texans to carry handguns without being fingerprinted or getting their permit.
Although people are allowed to carry their guns openly, it does not change where you can not carry them.
Place such as hospitals, jails/ prisons, schools, polling places, sporting events and airports will not allow open carry inside.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is required to offer a free gun course online but it is not mandatory.
