“White Boy Rick” Influencer Sues Police For $100 Million

Richard Wershe Jr., who inspired the  “White Boy Rick” film, filed a $100 million lawsuit against Detroit police officers and prosecutors.

He is accusing them of pressuring him to help them when he was a teenager.

Wershe was apprehended in 1987 and given a life sentence when he was 17 years-old for possession of cocaine. He was working as an informant at that time.

He was incarcerated for 32 years and seven months and filed the suit on the first anniversary of his release. Wershe stated that he spent the longest time locked up for a nonviolent crime than any other minor in Michigan.

Richard’s journey prompted the production of the 2018 film, “White Boy Rick.” It featured Matthew McConaughey and Richie Merritt. The name of the film was in reference to Richard’s nickname when he was younger.
