$9 Million In Repairs Needed Proir to Building Collapsing

1.3kviews

In 2018, an engineering firm approximated that $9 million in repairs would be needed to the oceanfront building that fell in Miami.

The city of Surfside released documents from the firm as rescue attempts resumed. 5 people are dead and more than 150 people are still missing.

One document noted that the ground- floor pool deck was sitting on a slab that had severe damage. There were also cracks in the concrete columns, beams, and walls in the parking garage. Repairs had not been performed.

In 2020, the firm was employed again to handle the work that was needed. Although roof construction was in process, concrete restoration had not started.

Lawsuits are underway against the condo building’s homeowners association. It seeks damages and other things for everyone who resides in the building. The lawsuit states that this tragic event could have been avoided. Ordinary care, safety measures, and oversight would have prevented this, it says.
