Yasmin Perez and Gyovanny Arzuaga were commemorating Puerto Rican Day on Saturday. During which, they were involved in a small accident. Now, they are both dead.
Video recordings reveal that a group of men surrounded their car. They pulled Perez out of the vehicle and beat her. When Arzuaga went to assist his wife, he was shot execution-style. He died that night.
Their bodies laid in the road beside their vehicle as their attackers fled the scene. Perez had a gunshot wound to her neck. She lived for a few days but died on Tuesday.
The couple leaves behind two children. The youngest will turn 1 on Friday.
On Monday, Chicago mayor, Lori Lightfoot, stated that authorities have some good information and have identified the alleged shooter.
This occurrence has gained national coverage. It comes as Chicago has already been dealing with an extremely violent year.
