Major help is on the way to Texas after a devastating and deadly week endured during the winter storms and even after for the entire state.
President Joe Biden has approved Texas’ request for a major disaster declaration. The following counties will have federal funding available for those affected by the storm: Angelina, Aransas, Bastrop, Bee, Bell, Bexar, Blanco, Brazos, Brown, Burleson, Caldwell, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Collin, Comal, Comanche, Cooke, Coryell, Dallas, Denton, DeWitt, Ellis, Falls, Fort Bend, Galveston, Gillespie, Grimes, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Hays, Henderson, Hidalgo, Hood, Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Kaufman, Kendall, Lavaca, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Maverick, McLennan, Montague, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Nueces, Orange, Palo Pinto, Panola, Parker, Polk, Rockwall, Sabine, San Jacinto, San Patricio, Scurry, Shelby, Smith, Stephens, Tarrant, Tyler, Upshur, Van Zandt, Victoria, Walker, Waller, Wharton, Wichita, Wilson, and Wise.
Governor Greg Abbott sent a thank you to the president, noting this was a huge step towards the state’s recovery efforts.
“I thank President Biden for his assistance as we respond to impacts of the winter weather across our state,” said Governor Abbott in a statement Saturday. “While this partial approval is an important first step, Texas will continue to work with out federal partners to ensure all eligible Texans have access to the relief they need. The funds provided under the Major Disaster Declaration may provide crucial assistance to Texans as they begin to repair their home and address property damage.”
The assistance may include grants towards temporary housing and home repair. Also included is low-cost loans to protect uninsured property losses and other programs to help the residents of Texas get back on track again.
