Austin Independent School District voted unanimously Tuesday morning to implement a new sexual education curriculum in grades third through eighth. This new curriculum includes educating children on gender identity, sexual orientation, anal sex, abstinence and even included showing seventh graders how to use a condom. The AISD believes this curriculum will help kids identify and adult they trust while including options available if pregnancy occurs. Students in grade school will be informed on how to get an abortion or obtain birth control without parental consent by May of 2020.
There have been several protests against this new sexual education curriculum outside of the AISD headquarters but with each protest, supporters arrive and interrupted protests. A transgender woman Naomi Wilson, has been arrested and accused of trespassing.
