
The Garland Police Department is actively investigating a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old girl and serious injuries to a 16-year-old boy. The incident took place on the night of March 15, 2025, at approximately 10:15 p.m., near the intersection of East Oates Road and Miami Drive.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered the two victims in the roadway. Unfortunately, the 14-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 16-year-old male was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Authorities identified a damaged 2005 brown Chevy Silverado at the crash site and received statements from witnesses who reported seeing a male individual flee the scene with a child immediately following the collision.
Through thorough investigative efforts, police identified the driver as 30-year-old Stetson Ybarbo, a resident of Rowlett. Investigators believe Ybarbo was traveling at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the roadway, and struck the two pedestrians along with several parked cars nearby. After the incident, he reportedly left the scene without providing any assistance to the victims.
Subsequent to the collection of evidence and witness accounts, police were able to locate Ybarbo at a residence in Garland, where he was arrested. He has been charged with:
– Fail to Stop and Render Aid – Involving Death
– Fail to Stop and Render Aid – Involving Serious Bodily Injury
