23-year-old Terrius Randolph, of Dallas, has been convicted of capital murder. This is in relation to the fatal shooting of 67-year-old Oluwafemi Joseph Ogundana who had been visiting from Nigeria.

Ogundana was supposed to go back to Nigeria two days following his murder. The killing happened in August 2019 when Randolph, who was 18 years old back then, had gotten Ogundana to meet him under false pretenses after meeting through an online marketplace.

Documents show that Randolph pretended to be a seller on LetGo, providing phones for sale under another name. Ogundana had been buying phones to take back to Nigeria and had answered an ad and planned to meet with Randolph in his community. When they met, Randolph robbed Ogundana at gunpoint.

“Get out, get out, don’t shoot, don’t shoot,” Ogundana was overheard pleading during the robbery. However, Randolph shot him anyway, hitting Ogundana in the leg. The bullet severed a femoral artery, leading to Ogundana succumbing to his wounds a little while later.

Dallas Police quickly identified Randolph as the suspect. A witness had given Randolph’s description and the area to where he had fled. Four days following the incident, an anonymous tip lead police to a local motel where he was taken into custody.

When the trial was over, Randolph was convicted of capital murder and was given life in prison without the chance of parole. He also has been charged with different offenses, including aggravated robbery and kidnapping in Collin County.
